Lamborghini’s Sant’ Agata Factory Goes Green

Recently Lamborghini announced that a new 17,000 square meter photovoltaic or in layman’s terms a solar panel energy producing system has been installed and officially inaugurated at SantAgata. We all know that this is the manufacturing center of Lamborghini and is basically the heart and soul of Lamborghini. This photovoltaic system together with other environmentally friendly processes integrated within Sant’ Agata will enable a reduction in CO2 emissions of 30%, equal to more than 1.067 tons per year for the Lamborghini company as a whole.

This environmentally friendly operation affects important areas of the business: the production plant, sales offices, the customer service department and the design center (Centro Stile), occupying a total area of 17,000 square meters, equivalent to more than two football pitches.

According to the immaculately dressed Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., the company; will carry on down this road, and are evaluating activities which will lead, in the future, to a remarkable 50% reduction in the factorys CO2 emissions. This will go hand-in-hand with actual product development, where our goal is to reduce emissions by 35% by 2015.

Started in 2007 and finished on schedule at the end of 2009 by Spanish group Gestamp Asetym Solar s.l., a leader in the field of renewable source investment, and Sinergia Sistemi S.p.A., an Italian market leader in energy saving services, specializing in civil and industrial energy management and large system creations which exploit renewable sources, the launch of the photovoltaic system marks an important energy improvement project; it has a total power output of 1.4 MW, producing green energy of 1,582 MWh/year with a 20% reduction in emissions. A further 10% reduction was obtained by applying a thermal insulation cover to the entire roof of the production facility, the introduction of domotics for lighting and heating systems and the use of warm air destratifiers. Furthermore, a counter at the factory entrance provides a real-time display of the kilowatt hours of electrical energy produced and the effective amount of kilograms of CO2 saved.

Of course, you may now ask whether a green factory that ultimately manufactures supercars that aren’t that green or environmental friendly in the first place is one way of being responsible to the environment. There is some irony to this fact.

Of course, the reasoning behind this is the fact that while you are building gas guzzling supercars you can at least build them in an environmentally healthy environment and that in a somewhat green environment the Research and Development department has amassed an internationally recognized expertise which allows it to achieve objectives that are only possible through the use of innovative technologies and materials such as composite materials and carbon fiber so that Lamborghini research focuses on:

reducing the weight of the vehicles mostly via carbon fiber utilization in the vehicles;

improving combustion;

reducing friction;

integrating Start-and-Stop systems;

hybrid transmission solutions; and

biofuels

Which in turn supposedly make Lamborghini cars into more environmentally friendly tree hugging supercars.

According to the media release the first milestone achieved was with the Gallardo LP 560-4. The new technical solutions applied to this car enabled a reduction in CO2 emissions of 18%, and nearly 20% on the latest rear-wheel drive Valentino Balboni version and a 70kg weight loss in the LP570-4. These cars performance are thus improved with a decreased power to weight ratio, and a reduced total mass which means that CO2 emissions are also decreased.

Imagine that, a whole report on responsible supercar manufacturing. Concepts like this would not have existed 10 years ago. In those days, we concentrated on making the product as environmentally friendly as possible, now these companies are announcing a holistic concept towards a certain product. I wonder if it’s the same if you build an atomic bomb in a green and environmentally friendly factory, then use it to kill a zillion or so people would it be killing people in a greener and friendlier tree hugging way? Okay, I may be exaggerating. A little. As any Lamborghini that’s lighter and faster due to weight loss and burns less petrol is a very good thing. But it is only a good thing if I can afford the darn thing in the first place if you get my drift.

Cheap car loans can help you in getting car loans according to your budget and financial constraints. People often have some constraints and they look for such loans which can save a significant amount of their hard earned money. Cheap car loans cater to the specific needs of the borrowers, who are looking for such made-for-you loans. You have the flexibility to avail a secured loan option, or an unsecured loan.

Porsche Boxster. When You Can’t Afford A 911

If you’ve always dreamed of owning a late model Porsche, but can’t afford the hefty price tag of a 911, then the Porsche Boxster may just be the right option for you.

The Porsche Boxster has been available in Australia since 1997. In early 2005, a new model was introduced. The Porsche Boxster is a two seater roadster offering a cheaper alternative to the 911. While some regard the Porsche Boxster as a rather bland car, in styling as well as in performance, the Porsche Boxster has proven a popular choice here in Australia, with its undeniable Porsche styling.

While not having the power of the more expensive 911, the Porsche Boxster still offers good sports performance from its mid-mounted, boxster engine. There are two models available in Australia: the Boxster and the Boxster S. The standard Boxster has a 2.7 litre 6 cylinder engine that produces 180kw at 6,500rpm. The Boxster has a top speed of 258 km/h and goes from a standing start to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

The Boxster S is the more expensive option. It is powered by a 3.4 cylinder boxster engine which produces a more respectable 217 kw at 6,250 rpm. The bigger engine gives the Boxster S a top speed of 272 km/h and propels the car from zero to one hundred on just 5.4 seconds.

While many sports cars sacrifice comfort for performance, the Porsche Boxster does provide comfort for both driver and passenger. In fact, even taller drivers will find the room generous with the adjustable three spoke steering wheel and ergonomically designed pedals. The seats are designed to hold you in when you’re taking tight corners fast and offer a wide range of adjustment options.

For the safety conscious, both Boxster models employ four piston monobloc aluminium fixed callipers on both the front and rear wheels. The braking system offers precise braking in all weather conditions and at high speed. The response from the pedal is fast and precise.

Safety inside is provided by two side airbags each for both driver and passenger as well as the front airbags. There’s also protection from rollover in both the front and rear. The front windscreen incorporates a sturdy steel element while the rear is protected by stainless steel roll-over bars. Both models of the Porsche Boxster also include side impact protection which protects the head and upper body of the driver and passenger in the event of a side collision.

Tips for buying a one owner Porsche Boxster
As the Porsche Boxster has only been sold in Australia since 1997, it should not be too hard finding a good one owner car in excellent condition. Make sure you check the body for any signs of damage. If you find any signs of rust, then the bodywork repair has been shoddy and the car should be avoided.

Check the service log to ensure that the car has been properly serviced by a qualified Porsche mechanic. When test driving, pay particular attention to the brakes and the clutch. If the brakes lock one wheel ahead of the others, they may be in need of an overhaul.

Confessions of a Car Rental Marketer

I get paid to sell self-drive holidays to Australians, to encourage them to take to the open roads and explore new territory behind the wheel of a rental car. I have a confession to make. I can’t actually drive.

Now I haven’t deliberately kept this from my employer, it wasn’t mentioned in my interview nor was it in my job description alongside having excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team or to meet deadlines in a fast paced working environment. It was neither an essential nor desirable attribute.

I have never lied about it, but I do avoid voluntarily giving out this information about myself. I’m almost 25 for goodness sake! Kids I used to babysit have got in the driver’s seat before me. I guess I just haven’t got around to it in 7 years. I’m used to the convenience of city living and not needing to be able to drive.

So while I am cruising comfortably on my P plates in my car rental marketing career, I have yet to get my Learners licence to drive. The irony of the situation was pointed out to me at a recent industry function when I was talking to a marketing guru from an airline. He asked me what kind of car I drove and I said quietly that, actually, I can’t drive. “What!” he exclaimed “You work for a car rental company and you can’t drive?!” True. But, I said to him, you work for an airline, can you fly a plane?

You see, what I try to market or sell is not driving. We don’t sell the idea of jumping into a rental car, the exhilaration of putting the key in the ignition, turning on the engine and…well, whatever it is that comes next.

No, we try to sell the idea of freedom, the thought of having independence and flexibility on holidays, exploring new places, making memories and having a good time. We try to inspire people to visit places off the beaten track and discover new things.

So does it actually matter that I can’t drive? Do you think dog food marketers have actually tasted what they’re selling? Exactly.

I have travelled around the world and I have been in cars lots of times, often simultaneously, so I know the feeling of having the wind in your hair, good music in your ears and a smile on your face. I know the excitement of visiting new and foreign lands and the joy of travelling around, not being in a cramped Greyhound bus or overcrowded non-air conditioned train.

I have just been in the passenger’s seat, not the driver’s, that’s all.

Having said all that, I know that I need to learn to drive. Will I finally take the plunge and learn? Yes, most definitely, in part to aid my copywriting, to gain independence and well, to see what all the fuss about.

Yes, there’s all that and also that promise that my partner made about getting a shiny new Yaris when I do finally get my license. Now that is an incentive to learn.

Porsche Or Ferrari – What You Need To Know.

Porsche and Ferrari are German and Italian sides of the same coin, interpretations of the sports car idea. Both founded by a dominant patriarch, both honed in racing, both more than 50 years old, both with engineering and styling integrity. Whether on the track of Le Mains or on the streets, the two have always been put head-to-head and compared. Even the most naive motorist associates these two names with both performance and style.

We’ve decided to compare the methodical Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and the passionate Ferrari F430 because both of them astonish with their performance while attempting to maintain a reasonable amount of practicality but do not pretend to be anything other than sports cars.

A modern sports car should feature these characteristics: it should be started easily, maneuvered around town, blasted on a couple of country roads, it looks and performs the part on a racetrack but at the same time it is very safe.

The easier way to separate the two cars is by measuring figures since both of them have mastered the modern sports car requirements and basically there’s no other way to choose between these two phenomenal cars.

What initially impresses is Ferrari’s lightning fast 4-second 0-100km/h acceleration and thrilling exhaust tone. As the occupants are pinned to the seats, the new generation 4.3-litre V8 pushes out 368 snarling kilowatts. Porsche’s acceleration also offers that kick in the pants a super car should deliver, although it is 0.8 seconds slower at the 100 km/k mark.

With such acceleration performance, it comes natural for both cars to excel in the braking department. The two cars offer optional ceramic discs for impressive stopping.

Porsche’s engine gets the upper hand as it is more refined and on the economy rank leaps ahead Ferrari with a 11.8 liters per 100 km as opposed to 18.3 liters. Both cars deliver the power through impressive 6-speed gearboxes and offer top rate handling performance.

Both F430 and Carrera4S offer great interior comfort and even if the space is limited, the occupants don’t feel claustrophobic and flustered. Although an impressive mix of suede, carbon fiber and aluminum abound in the Ferrari, the Italians stand no chance when it comes to the high finish level attained by the Germans.

Speed and silence are key elements for any super car. The look and appearance is the biggest draw card. The Carrera 4S is a typical Porsche, despite the new proportions. It is a great looking car, like any other 911 but somehow the styling no longer creates the jaw dropping reaction that the Ferrari does. Indeed, traditionalists may say that Porsche pays homage to its roots, but the truth is that Ferrari F430 simply draws the attention.

However, even if Ferrari F430 takes your breath away with its appearance, the super car title goes to the Porsche Carrera 4S with a more complete all round package.
